OUR HISTORY

The Metallurgical Industrial Engineering College at Volta Redonda (EEIMVR) was founded on July 17, 1961, by President Jânio Quadros as part of the National Work University. Its establishment was closely linked to the National Steelworks Company (CSN), a technological milestone in Brazil that drove the growth of the steel, mechanical, and foundry industries, as well as specialized technical sectors in the region. EEIMVR was originally created to train Metallurgical Engineers, emphasizing strong practical industry experience.

In 2001, the college expanded its undergraduate programs to include Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering. In the second semester of 2005, Business Administration and Agribusiness Engineering programs were introduced.

Today, the region thrives, developing cutting-edge technology in industries such as metal mechanics, automotive, and other advanced manufacturing sectors.

Professor and students from EEIMR have been keeping pace with this evolution, participating in, absorbing, and influencing this transformation through interactions with the region’s leading companies via agreements and partnerships.

With the successful consolidation of the undergraduate Production Engineering program, the Graduate Program in Production Engineering (PPGEP) was established in 2015. This program significantly contributes to the socioeconomic development of the region by integrating technical and managerial expertise—critical skills in today’s competitive job market.

PPGEP is a Professional Master’s Program evaluated by CAPES under Engineering III. The program is tuition-free, and classes are held in the evening to accommodate working professionals.
